International Watermedia XV
June 15 – August 3, 2007, Gallery of Contemporary Art on the campus of the University of Colorado – Colorado Springs
A total of 131 artists from the United States, Canada and Europe submitted 319 entries for International Watermedia XV. Acclaimed juror Frank Webb A.W.S. (DF), N.W.S., selected the final 78 works that are included in this exhibition. Twenty pieces were selected to receive exhibition awards totaling approximately $3,500.
International Watermedia XV began with a three-day workshop by Frank Webb on June 4, 5, and 6, 2007. It opened to the public with an Awards Reception on June 15 at the UCCS Gallery of Contemporary Art, and ran through August 3. International Watermedia XV award winners:

The Kurt Gabel Memorial Award is given in loving memory from donations of family and friends of long time PPWS Signature Member, Kurt Gabel, who passed away last year. He was born in Chicago in May 1929. He has five grown children and many grandchildren and great grandchildren and is survived by his wife. Kurt graduated with a BA from the University of New Mexico and majored in Fine Arts, Commercial Art, and Literature, with a minor in Naval Science. Kurt was owner and Chief Executive of Gabel Advertising, Inc. In addition he served as a Creative Director, an Art Director, and Copywriter in film, video, radio and print. Kurt also worked as a watercolor and art teacher at local public schools and adult education venues. Kurt was an award-winning watercolor artist and extremely involved with the Pikes Peak Watercolor Society as our parliamentarian. His paintings are prized possessions and hanging in homes and collections throughout the country. He was known for architectural renderings created with an eye for detail. He had many paintings juried into shows and exhibitions including: Allied Artists of America, Artists of the West, Audubon Artists, National Academy of Design, Kentucky Watercolor Society, Knickerbocker Artists, Salmagundi Art Exhibit, and Rocky Mountain National Exhibit to name a few.
