About the Pikes Peaks Watercolor Society
The purpose of the Pikes Peak Watercolor Society is to promote, educate, and encourage artistic excellence in watercolor painting among members and within the community.
Nancy Baldrica and Mary Ann Bransby co-founded the Society in 1986, organizing ten watercolor artists living in the Pikes Peak region of Colorado.
The ten Charter Members were:
Nancy Baldrica
Michael Baum
Joseph Bohler
Mary Ann Bransby
Marian Busey
Kurt Gabel
Dennis Linn
Penny Stewart
Don Van Horn
Richard E. Williams
Their first exhibit was held at the Pikes Peak Center in Colorado Springs in March of 1988, with a second exhibit during the end of that same year. Today the PPWS continues to promote and encourage watercolor through its sponsorship of exhibitions, scholarships, workshops, and through its support of other local arts organizations and educational institutions.
Currently, the PPWS has over 100 Signature and Associate members. We sponsor educational projects including workshops, support and participation in art organization events, and provide for educational experiences and scholarships for local art students. We have two on-going exhibitions:
The annual Signature Members' Show, usually held during the latter part of the year. Associate members are juried in on a space-available basis.
The biennial International Watermedia Exhibition, usually held during spring or summer (next show in 2013).
Many PPWS members are active participants and show in local and national watercolor and art society exhibitions. Works by Society members appear regularly in national and international exhibitions, galleries, books and publications. Numerous members teach art classes, organize show events and painting outings, and hold workshops locally, nationally and abroad.
We meet at 5:45 pm the third Wednesday of each month (except July), at the Cottonwood Center for the Arts, located in downtown Colorado Springs at 427 E. Colorado Avenue.
We invite you to be our guest at one of our monthly meetings, or join us as a member. If you would like to join PPWS, click HERE.
